Advanced wound healing
EPIPROTECT®
The biosynthetic skin substitute that works with the body to enhance healing and comfort.

Overview
The biosynthetic skin substitute EPIPROTECT® supports advanced wound healing and the management of burns. EPIPROTECT® can be left on the wound during the entire healing process, minimizing the need for dressing changes and lowering the cost of care.

Indications
- Burn wounds, such as healing of partial-thickness and deep partial-thickness, as well as temporary coverage of full-thickness (3rd-degree) burns.
- Trauma wounds, such as abrasions, lacerations, and skin tears.
- Chronic wounds, such as diabetic, venous, and arterial ulcers.
- Infected wounds, when combined with antimicrobial treatments.
Indication
Burns
Partial-thickness and deep partial-thickness burns, and temporary coverage of full-thickness burns.
Indication
Paediatric
Published paediatric experience — pain at dressing changes, tolerance and healing time.
Indication
Hard-to-heal wounds
Chronic wounds where the wound has stalled and the cost of care keeps rising.

The technology
The Technology Behind EPIPROTECT®
The material that forms EPIPROTECT® is called eiratex, a biosynthetic material engineered to replicate the intricate nanostructure of collagen fibers found in human skin.
eiratex is an engineered material that mimics the structure and function of human skin without relying on animal or human tissue, providing a protective, cell-free, temporary skin layer for burns and similar wounds.
Unique properties
- Transparency for easy monitoring
- Optimized moisture and gas levels for faster recovery
- Anti-microbial barrier for reduced infection risks
- Single-use design for fewer dressing changes
01
What is eiratex®?
The material that forms EPIPROTECT® is called eiratex, a biosynthetic material engineered to replicate the intricate nanostructure of collagen fibers found in human skin.

02
A temporary skin layer
eiratex is an engineered material that mimics the structure and function of human skin without relying on animal or human tissue, providing a protective, cell-free, temporary skin layer for burns and similar wounds.

03
A protective barrier
The billions of fibers within the eiratex network form a protective barrier that prevents bacteria from penetrating the wound, ensuring a clean and safe healing environment. eiratex also binds small molecules that can interfere with the healing process, including: Endotoxins, Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), Pro-Inflammatory Mediators.

04
Fluid and gas balance
While keeping bacteria out, EPIPROTECT® helps maintain optimal healing conditions by balancing fluid and gas levels. The membrane is gas-permeable and buffers moisture, ensuring ideal conditions for moist wound healing while promoting the smooth development of new skin.

05
Fewer dressing changes
EPIPROTECT® can be left on the wound during the entire healing process, minimizing the need for dressing changes and lowering the cost of care.

How eiratex® compares
A side-by-side view of EPIPROTECT®/eiratex® against tissue-based grafts and traditional dressings.
| EPIPROTECT® / eiratex® | Allograft / xenograft | Traditional dressing | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source | Biosynthetic cellulose — free from animal and human tissue | Human donor tissue (allograft) | Synthetic fibres, no biological interface |
| Transparency for monitoring | Transparent — the wound bed stays visible | Opaque | Opaque |
| Single application | Often applied once and left in place until healed | Repeat grafting may be required | Repeated changes |
| Moisture & gas balance | Gas-permeable and buffers moisture, ensuring ideal conditions for moist wound healing | Variable, tissue dependent | Depends on secondary dressing |
| Pain at dressing change | No repeated removal from the healing wound bed | Removal of graft remnants can be painful | Adherence and removal are common pain points |
| Infection barrier | A protective barrier that prevents bacteria from penetrating the wound | Biological barrier, donor-screening dependent | Barrier depends on the dressing construction |
What changes in daily practice
Fewer dressing changes
Often a single application, left in place.
Less pain
No repeated removal from a healing wound bed.
Lower cost of care
Less material, less nursing time, fewer procedures.
